Message from Club President Randi Ostby - January 24, 2013

         Hello Sockeyes,

          Registration

The registration dates for the Summer Session will be April 16th from 5:30-6:30 and April 18th from 5:00-7:00 at the pool.  Details outlining registration fees and fundraising requirements

will be furnished in the next week or two, and will be accessible from the "Click here for information about regstration" link above.

Swim days for Sockeyes are presently still  Tuesdays (5:30-6:30) and Thursdays (6:00-7:00)

       Ogo Winter Fun Meet

Click here for the Meet Package for the 2013 Ogo Winter Fun Meet which is going to be held from 1-6 pm on Sunday February 10th at the H2O Pool in Kelowna.

This is a low key swim meet for anybody who is interested in a winter competition.  There will be no formal disqualifications.  Swimmers are reminded that this meet counts as one hour of

swimming and therefore training needs to be adjusted the week of the meet to avoid violating the 2 hour per week rule.  Information about events and format is included in the meet package.

If anybody is interested in going to this meet, could you please let me know as soon as possible (i.e. in the next day or two) so that we can arrange for registration as a group.

If there are more than 10 swimmers interested in going we will try to send a coach.

      Panago Pizza Fundraiser for Sockeyes

The Salmon Arm Sockeyes have been fortunate to enter into a fundraising arrangement with Panago Pizza. Participation is optional, but it is a great deal for families and for the Sockeyes.

       The deal is as follows:

Panagos is providing 100 Medium Sized Pizza Certificates to the club to be sold at a price of $10.00 each. These Certificates are valid for the purchase of any Medium Sized Pizza from

Panago (pickup only). Medium pizzas have a retail value of $10.00 for a cheese pizza to up to $16.00 for specialty pizzas. Tax is included in the Certificate, so that is an additional savings.

For every Certificate sold, the club will keep $4.00 as fundraising revenue. If we sell 100 Pizzas the club will fundraise $400.

Certificates are available from Leanne Fair. Phone (250) 833-1876. Cash is fine or cheques payable to the Salmon Arm Sockeyes. Right now we are selling a maximum of 10 Certificates per

family. We are capped at selling 100 Certificates per month. A wait list will be maintained if demand exceeds supply.

Please support the swim club. Sale of these Certificates will help keep our Registration Fees as low as possible, and will reduce the need for other fundraising activities.  Last week Jim Fair

did a “test run” and used two Certificates to get two pizzas which would have retailed for $31.00. He said there was “no fuss, excellent deal, great pizza.”

It really is a win win situation for the purchaser of the Certificate and for the Sockeyes.

Panago requests no “selling booths” be set up for sale of these Certificates, but you can feel to sell them to your family, friends, and at work.   The good news is that coupons are valid at any

location in Canada.  Could be valuable for away swim meets where pizza is a staple dinner.  No pizza at lunch though, not good for racing with a belly full of New York Deli.

Panagos is located in the parking lot of the Centenoka Mall by the old “Blockbusters”.   Please contact Leanne Fair if you have any questions.

fr    Pool rules

I have asked by the Pool Management to remind swimmers and parents that no outdoor footwear is permitted on the pool deck.  They have noticed increasing amounts of dirt

and sand around the pool recently - this can cause problems with the  pool water quality.  The Pool Management would also like to remind swimmers to place swim bags against

the outside wall next to the wading pool, or to leave them in the change room.  Swimmers are asked to take a shower before entering the pool.

       Happy Swimming,

        Randi Ostby

        President, Salmon Arm Sockeyes
